Ipswich 3-2 Southampton Match Report

Jeremy Sarmiento scored a dramatic late winner as Ipswich edged fellow championship promotion hopefuls Southampton 3-2 at Portman Road.

The Tractor Boys took the lead through a stunning strike from left back Leif Davis in the 13th minute-a rocket past opposition keeper Gavin Bazunu. Saints though equalised almost instantly, with Che Adams drawing them level.

The two Armstrongs- Stuart and Adam, then combined to put the visitors ahead midway through the first half. It was a well-constructed goal from Saints, with Stuart’s fine diagonal pass finished by Adam.
Al-Hamadi hit the post for Ipswich but they were to find the equaliser they so desperately desired just minutes later, with Nathan Broadhead finding the back of the net.

Southampton were reduced to ten men when James Bree was sent off for a foul on goal scorer Davis, and the left back was to have an even greater impact on the game- he assisted Sarmiento for the hosts’ last-minute winner.

Sarmiento originally appeared to have fluffed his original shot, but showed great determination to get up and try again, and his finish sneaked in to leave the Portman Road faithful delighted.

Ipswich will now play East Anglian rivals Norwich away in their next game while Southampton will travel to Blackburn.
