Man United 4-1 Athletic Bilbao Match Report

Mason Mount scored a fine brace off the bench as Manchester United beat Athletic Bilbao 4-1 to advance to the Europa League final. The Red Devils will face Tottenham Hotspur, who beat Bodo/Glimt in the other semi-final, with the winner of the EL final set to play in the Champions League next season.

United had the comfort of a 3-0 lead from the first leg at San Mames, but manager Ruben Amorim still named a strong starting XI, opting to take no chances. It was Bilbao who drew first blood though, with midfielder Jauregizar unleashing a stunner from distance following a misplaced pass from Harry Maguire.

Amorim then made a triple substitution shortly after the hour mark and Mount, one of those three subs, drew United level with a nice strike on 72 minutes. Brazilian Casemiro then ended any faint Bilbao hopes with a header on 79 minutes.

Fellow substitute Amad Diallo set up Rasmus Hojlund for a third on 85 minute and Mount put the icing on the cake with his stoppage time effort. Athletic keeper Agirrezabala made a mistake with his pass and with the Bilbao GK way off his line, Mount scored from near the halfway-line to make it 4-1 for the hosts.
