Paris St-Germain retained the UEFA Super Cup with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Aston Villa in Salzburg, securing the trophy for the second year in a row.
The Champions League holders took the lead in the 20th minute through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who fired home a superb opening goal to put PSG in control.
Aston Villa responded impressively before the break, with 17-year-old Brian Madjo making an unforgettable debut. The England Under-17 international had earlier missed two good opportunities, shooting wide and heading over, but made his third chance count. Madjo met John McGinn’s cross at the back post with a well-taken volley in the 45th minute to level the scores.
His goal also saw him become the youngest scorer in UEFA Super Cup history, capping a memorable first appearance at the Red Bull Arena.
The winning moment came in the 62nd minute when Désiré Doué found the net for PSG. The goal was checked by the video assistant referee (VAR) for a possible offside before being awarded, restoring the French side’s lead.
Villa continued to compete with determination but were unable to find another equaliser, as PSG held on to claim back-to-back UEFA Super Cup titles.
Despite the defeat, Villa produced an encouraging display against the European champions, with teenager Madjo providing the standout moment for the Premier League side. PSG, however, once again showed their quality on the big stage, edging a closely contested final to add another European trophy to their growing collection.
