Aston Villa 2-0 Tottenham Hotspur Match Report

Aston Villa’s final home game of the season saw them ease past struggling Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 on Friday evening. While the game was important for Villa– the three points kept them in the race for CL footy; it was next to inconsequential for Spurs, who crashed to their 21st league defeat of the campaign.

Spurs created very little- the closest the visitors came to goal was an instinctive backheel from Odobert that was well saved by Villa’s World-Cup winning keeper Emi Martinez.

The hosts dominated the game, but took an hour to take the lead. John McGinn’s corner was headed back in by Ollie Watkins into the path of Ezri Konsa, whose shot went through the legs of Yves Bissouma and past Kinsky in the opposition goal.

Boubacar Kamara’s powerful effort from the edge of the box on 73 minutes sealed victory for the Villans. They are currently fifth, but sixth placed Man City, a point behind Unai Emery’s side, have a game in hand.

Both Villa and Spurs have potentially season-defining games against Manchester United coming up, with Spurs taking on the Red Devils in the Europa League final and Villa up against them on the final day of the campaign.
